Native spring flowers will be abundant for easy walking in the Dharawal National Park, Darkes Forest. This is a wide dirtgravel road trail with some up-and-down grades. We will seek out wildflowers along the sides of the track, suitable for all types of cameras, including mobile phones. Try photographing macro or close-up or groups of flowers. We may encounter some lizards, insects and birds feeding on the flowers. The walk length is not set, but the pace will allow plenty of time to find and photograph flowers. We will return along the same route. You will need to be able to walk unaided along the uneven ground and have sufficient fitness to keep up with the group.

Nature Walk and Illawarra Lookouts

Kick-off Summer with a nature walk.
We will explore Mount Keira Summit Park along the Summit Walk track, a leisurely walk through the escarpment bush. We will stop at two lookouts with views over the city of Wollongong, including its northern suburbs, plus the industrial area and Lake Illawarra to the south. There will be an assortment of subjects to photograph native flowers, lichen and moss, maybe fungi, and the possibility of spotting a lyrebird. We will also attempt to create a sweeping horizontal panorama of the Illawarra coastline from one of the lookouts. This walk is easy but on uneven ground and several points with steps.
Light Painting and other Light Effects at Night with a Christmas theme

Using a suitable and safe location near Woonona Pool and Beach, we will experiment with burning steel wool, sparklers, torches, and coloured lights to create special effects using long-exposure camera settings. Perfect for decorating cards, emails and social media. Learn how to control the amount of light and choose the camera settings. Ideally you will have some knowledge of using your camera in manual mode to get the most out of this meet-up.

Start your morning early by photographing the sunrise at Sandon Point headland. We'll watch the sunrise off at the iconic boat sheds to catch the first light as it accentuates the textures of the rocks and wood. Afterwards, we'll explore the rock platform, where you'll have plenty of chances to capture macroinvertebrates, birds, and seascapes, and for those who are keen, we will also try some ICM intentional camera movement on the breaking waves.
